Born and raised just north of Boston in the small fishing town of Swampscott, Ambidex has always had a knack for the spotlight since a young age. A natural calling, Ambidex found himself drawn to the hip hop culture since first exposed to it. Over the years he has been driven to write about what he sees around him as a way to not only wake up others with his conscious perception of life, but also as a form of personal therapy. Exchanging half of the mic duties Ambidex is also part of the Split Personalities, a group with producer/emcee Jerm the Just One. The Split Personalities along with Crisis Colosus, Tommy Hearns, Adam Epilogue, Dj Shortrock, Dj Deity, Kraterface, and El Tripps form the New England Hip Hop collective known as The Blue Collar Insomniacs. Dex's history of live performances include sharing stages with established acts such as The Roots, Ed Og, Sage Francis, Akrobatik, and Josh Martinez.
Dex spent 2004 giving birth to his solo debut, The Great Potato Famine which positioned itself as Early Spotters second release for 2005. Beyond a unique conceptual album, this riveting body of work is indeed a powerful mental vehicle taking the listener on a roller coaster ride inside the minds of an amalgam of American stereotypes. Ambidex clearly earned his moniker by portraying multiple characters, ranging from all classes of American Society and delivers a luculent oration of compelling stories told from a first person perspective expressing the lives they lead. A true hip hop scholar Dex graduated from the University of Maine in 2003 and currently resides in Lynn, Massachusetts working as a carpenter, so if you need a deck on your house or a new second floor addition feel free to hit him up.
