 In a market where over saturation usually claims the likes of most up and coming artists, emcee Access Immortal and producer Vanderslice have combined talents to form a unique niche necessary to stay afloat, break through, and get the people listening. That niche comes in the form of an album. Shades of Reality is an amalgam of Hip Hop's best kept sugo and for the unfamiliar the ingredients are dope beats, dope lyrics, and an overall dope presentation. Over Vanderslice's production work the emcee efforts of Access could easily stand alone. However, to keep things interesting they bring along a guest list of indie stars including J Zone, 7L, Insight, Smiley da Ghetto Child, Wordsworth and others. Brooklyn bred flow and delivery fit perfectly into the landscape of hard hitting production. The album lacks only in the area of filler as this is one of the few albums that captivate the listener from start to finish. The rugged key driven Authentic Made sets the LP in motion. Produced by Green Steez, this monster of a track perfectly accents Smiley da Ghetto Child, Access, and Breez Evahflowins vocals. Access reveals his personal journals through out the album on tracks like the enormously crushing Resident Evil where he speaks on his rocky road from amateur to the pro ranks of music, the people who never supported him, and the people he grew with both musically and personally. My Testimony is another Vanderslice produced heat rock, where Access speaks on life issues and the stress of the daily grind. This album is a diverse collage of topics ranging from head splitting battle type raps, to real life issues, to women, to love and even lost family. The album is exactly what the title claims, as the listener is presented with the various Shades of Reality. |
